Good Gad, how can anyone hate RENT? Admittedly I am a major broadway junkie, but it is still an amazing film. When my friend and I first saw it the peole in front of us were crying and the people behind us were singing and as soon as it ended we ran into the nearest music store and bought the soundtrack. within a week we had all the songs memorized and our other friends had a developed escape plan for when we started singing (until the saw it of course, then they were immediately converted). I think the reason most critics don`t like RENT is because they`re not used to seeing todays major issues on the big screen, and being sung about nonethel
Rent is now my favorite movie of all time. I listen to the soundtrack daily, and more often than not you`ll find me singing "I`ll Cover You" absently in my classes. I believe it shows that even the "extreme" social groups can love and feel and hate and have the same struggles as anyone else. I have to say, I cried so hard I couldn`t breathe in the theatre when Angel died, and the I`ll Cover You Reprise still brings tears to my eyes.
I think it`s the most brilliant movie of all times. It has every emotions, and the music is outstanding.
I loved the movie soooooo much! I sobbed my eyes out at the end, but it really inspired me to live my life in the now, & not worry about stupid stuff.
To comment on a previous post. I do have a favorite line. It`s track number 10 on the cd. It`s called "Another Day" I love this part where Mimi sings. I can`t stop singing it over and over again, cuz it has so much meaning in it: Mimi: Your heart may freeze, or it can burn, the pain will ease, if I can learn. There is no future, there is no past. I live this moment as my last. Kara B.
Only for those who saw the play. It absolutely DOESN`T work as a movie.
This has to be the only movie I have seen this year that made me laugh AND cry. I loved it! I am buying it the second it comes out on DVD!
I`ve read some other comments about RENT from movie critics who thought this movie was only about AIDS, and there for, ruined the film, and was not worth seeing. Well to them I say
YAWWWNNNNNNN is it over yet?
This is by far the best movie that I have seen in a very long time. The cast did amazing, the songs were awsome and it captures your attention from the get go. My new favorite movie!!!!!!!
this movie was so amazing because it`s a movie that faces you with reality
i went to rent expecting something better...i love musicals so much...i`ve been to les miserables, i`ve been to cats and i didnt like how rent was put together as a movie. It was weird and maybe i didn`t stay long enough, but i really thought it was quite weird. Some of the ideals were really strange. Maybe it`s just me. but anyways i walked out in the middle...i didn`t like it!
YAYAY WE LOVE RENT
I`ve waited so long for RENT to be made into a movie and it`s everything I expected!!!!
Well, I`d have to say that the story and characters were a tad different/weird, but I really enjoyed it! Especially the music. Was Rosario Dawson actually singing? It was good.
The movie was incredible. The play was even better but its hard to compare the two seeing as the original cast was in the movie. But Absolutely amazing.. Wilson-Jermaine is gorgeous <3 <3 <3
This is an amazing movie, i recomend it to anyone who has a flare for music, romance or adventure. Id love to buy the soundtrack it was unforgetable!
I enjoyed this movie very much.. the songs are amazing! I haven`t seen the staged version but for an adaptation of a play, I would say it was very good. Much better than Chicago, and almost as good as the Phantom. The characters were done very well, except for Taye Diggs. Why is he even on the poster when his role is so small? I really want to see the play now!! -AJ
wow. can a movie get any better?
Absolutely loved it! Best movie I`ve seen this year.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! great music, brilliant cast, and a touching storyline... definitely opened up my eyes even more to the lives of those touched by aids. I WANNA SEE IT AGAIN!!!!
May I just comment that after seeing the nominations for the Golden Globes....I just don`t get it. Not a single nomination for "Rent" in the musical/comedy category? Instead we see "Walk the Line" listed as a musical? I really think the grey haired critics of the press have done a great disservice to this film. At the same time, I guess it is a somewhat backhanded compliment to be unappreciated in your own time.
I thought that this was a great adaptation from the broadway musical! It did not lose it`s charm or amazingly inspiring story. A wonderful movie!
I thought it was so good! i would def. recommend it! 5 stars!
Amazing story and music. Though having seen the stage show serveral times, I feel like the movie is missing some of the edgy qualities that make the show so incredible. I really find it heartbreaking that the story had so much potential, but the movie failed to meet my expectations.
Powerful. Tear-jerkingly sad. Reminiscent of early Scorsese for the photography of burned-out New York settings, and early DePalma for the expert usage of crane shots. On par with Chicago for contemporary musicals.
There is some raw talent in this one... but then again, it is most of the original broadway cast!
I`ve seen it probably about 4 times now.The BEST movie i`ve ever seen in a LONG time! And i`ve seen some pretty good ones seeing as I wokr at the movie theatre! I recommend it to EVERYONE.
never again will i see a terrible movie
It was a darn good film... Saw the Broadway show in November. The movie was better, I thought. When will they make an "Avenue Q" movie?!?!
Awesome!!!! It is about time Hollywood produced a movie that was real rather than the special effects junk they are putting out now. Rent was raw, real and amazing.
Wow, a terrific movie, great cast, extremely entertaining!
The movie made much more sense to me than the play. It was more coherent and easier to follow. Rosario Dawson is a force of nature. Amamzing!
Awesome!!! Amazing!!! Best movie I have seen in a long time!
AWESOME AMAZING CAN`T WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN!
I think this movie was absolutlely amazing! I had been planning to perform a piece from it with some friends, at the local festival and became very excited as I awaited the opening. I went in for surgery in September and was given the CD as a gift. It was amazing, and immediately, though doped up, started singing the songs. When the show came out I unfortunately couldn`t go the night it came out but was there a few days after. AMAZING!!! I have never seen a movie so well done, with such talent. I am so excited for the DVD to be out. Going to see it again shortly for the 3rd time. AWESOME!!!!! *No Day But Today*
This movie was a beautiful adaptation of the stage musical. It really struck what I felt was most important about the show- the real human, and raw qualities about it. Some parts even worked better on film then they did on stage. Over all, a well concieved movie with incredible characterization and touching relationships.
"Dearly beloved, we gather here to say our goodbyes. Here she lies, no one knew her worth; the late great daughter of mother earth on this night as we celebrate the birth. In that little town of bethlehem, we raise our glass, you bet your ass, to La Vie Boheme..." Anyone else have a favorite line? 5 stars baby!
I loved it. Think "Fame" "Hair" "Singing in the Rain" "Chorus Line" Baz Lurman Stanley Donen Michal Barichnicov and King Kong. Don`t be left out.
This was the worst movie ever...I walked out of it after an hour or so...and I was even with my girlfriend...It was horrible...I`d rather sit in Subway and listen to my girlfriend blab about nothing at all.
I saw the play in Toronto and on tour. The movie enhanced some of the story lines and I think the did a fabulous job. One of the best movies of this year, and this is from someone from the older demographics (above the age of 40). I don`t know if I can watch Law and Order without a smile now, Jesse Martin is a far more accomplished artist that he portrays on the show. They should showcase his talents and more depth to his character.Thank you for meeting my high expectations for the movie.
AMAZING MOVIE EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE IT MORE THEN ONCE!!!
I have been counting down the days since the start of August for "Rent" to come to theaters. I was there opening night and have been back to see it again. I am completely obsessed. My birthday is in October and the only gift I wanted was the soundtrack...and it`s currently my favorite CD...My poor boss is now a "RENT" lover because I`ve been playing the CD non-stop at work. Can`t wait for the DVD to come out. Sandy
I loved it it was amazing. Inspirational. although it does drag. but you`ll get your moneys worth. definatley cried some tears.
IDINA MENZEL ROCKS!
i loved how they brought up that Roger had AIDS via a flashback during One Song Glory. wasn`t crazy about how they portrayed Roger returning to NYC and Mark quitting -- that sequence i thought could have been better...and they skipped Roger and Mark`s fight during Goodbye Love. all in all i loved it, too bad the audience in the theatre SANG the ENTIRE flick!!!!!
good story line, but too much sining. loved the awy they did the scene with the candle, but i`m not really into musicals. 3 hours long of music? WAY TOO LONG.
I`ve been listening to the soundtrack of the play for over a year and had seen it on stage. I went to see it the night after opening night quite sure I would be critical and compare it too much to the play. Well, the small changes were masterfulley done and actually explained more of the story. I have only one word to describe it... A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!!!
it`s the most amazing movie ever made!!!! i`m gunna see it 4382945610293845 times
I mean I know sooo many people enjoy this movie but thats just it its not really a movie. Its more of a musical and should stay that way. Its wayyyyyy better as a musical!!!
