It's Mother's Day in Taipei. Chen Mo has made a dinner date with his wife, hoping to salvage their estranged relationship. After buying a cake, he arrives at his car to find it blocked in by another vehicle that has double parked next to his, preventing his exit. Chen Mo spends hours searching the floors of a nearby apartment building for the owner of the illegally parked car.
Along the way he encounters a number of eccentric characters: an old couple living with their precocious granddaughter, a one-armed barbershop owner who loves cooking and eating fish head soup, a mainland Chinese prostitute trying to escape her pimp's cruel clutches, and a Hong Kong tailor embroiled in debt to underground loan sharks. Chen Mo finally gets his car out of the parking space, with his new friends riding beside him.
