To soften a fear of death instilled in her by her Catholic upbringing, director Violet Daneau travels through Quebec, Switzerland, Spain and the United States to meet various specialists and individuals who have developed an intimate knowledge of the Grim Reaper. Among them she finds a psychiatrist in palliative care, a theologian, an atheist writer, an anthropologist, a mortuary make up artist, a prison chaplain and a nurse who has taken care of many terminally ill patients.
