In this 113-minute documentary, Frederick Wiseman traced the process through which cattle and sheep become consumer products. James Wolcott (Village Voice) saw it as Wiseman's most visually lacerating documentary.

It depicts the processing of meat products at a highly automated packing plant, illustrating logistical problems and other aspects of production, transportation, equipment design, time-motion studies, and labor management.
