A naive but talented young gospel singer in a church choir, Amara Winter (Ciara), dreams of pop stardom. Raised in a tight-knit community, Amara is discovered and quickly rises to the top with recording sessions and television appearances.
Worried that the media attention will turn her daughter's head, Amara's mother (Lynn Whitfield) begs her to stay focused on what's important. Even though her career is causing strain in her relationship with her mother, Amara continues following her dream. As she climbs to stardom, Amara has to learn to navigate the unstable and treacherous celebrity world and find a way to stay true to herself and her family.
