Set in the 1960s, Don Draper is an up-and-coming advertising executive with the Sterling Cooper ad agency. Don is married to Betty, but his wife is distant and he makes up for the lack of love he receives at home by cheating with artist Midge Daniels.
The company begins to work pro bono for the 1960 Nixon presidential campaign, believing that if Nixon wins, they will benefit in the long run. Betty, who has been suffering from shaking and numbness in her hands, crashes the family car. She begins to see a therapist.
However, Don has arranged with the therapist to tell him everything his wife says. Adding to the mix is the arrival of Don’s younger brother Adam, to whom Don gives $5,000 with instructions to start a new life for himself and never bother him again.
As we approach Thanksgiving 1960, Betty is disappointed by Don’s negative attitude about having Thanksgiving dinner with Betty’s family. To top it off, Betty finds out Don has been getting reports from her therapist about their private sessions. Don also gets tragic news about his brother.
