Julien, an eight-year-old boy whose mother is dying, is bullied by his classmates due to his Polish background. He becomes best friends with Sophie, a young girl his age. They invent a game which consists of them challenging each other to do dares. As the years pass, they continue to give each other dares and play hide-and-seek with their feelings.
Until the day when the game becomes too serious, forcing Julien and Sophie to declare a truce in the form of a 10-year separation, despite their obvious love for each other.
