Nick (Damon Wayans Jr.), a disgruntled man who's been burned by past relationships, joins a dating website that guarantees love. However, after going on hundreds of dates, he sues the site for failure to meet their guarantee.
He hires lawyer Susan Whitaker (Rachael Leigh Cook), who has always put her career ahead of her relationships, to take his case. Her staff decides that since Susan has never been on a dating website, she should set up a profile and find out what it's all about. She agrees, but only in the name of research and soon discovers that online dating is much more exhausting and demoralizing than she could ever have believed. As she gets together with Nick to find out more about his dating experience, she discovers he's made copious (albeit hiliarious) notes about each date.
When Nick comes to realize that Susan is a workaholic, he tries to get her to take time to experience life. As they spend time together, they discover not only how much they have in common, but begin to develop feelings for each other.
