Dede Tate (Jodie Foster) is a single mother whose seven-year-old son (Adam Hann-Byrd) is a child prodigy. She wants to give him a normal life, but because of his intelligence, he can't make any friends at school.
When his talents are noticed and he's invited to attend a school for the gifted, Dede struggles to give him every opportunity.
