Summer 1905. Before entering a private high school on a scholarship, Marcel Pagnol, the son of a teacher from Marseilles, spends the holidays with his family and his uncle’s family in the hills of Aubagne. Overjoyed to meet up again with Lili, his best friend with whom he has all kinds of adventures, the boy loses interest when he meets Isabelle, who lives with her parents in a neighboring property that looks like a castle. Beguiled by this haughty and distinguished girl, who claims to be descended from nobility, Marcel begins to look down on Lili, a farmer's son, and even his own family members.
