Okay, it was cute and uplifting, but NO profound insight into the human condition, not particularly moving or funny, the story was rather routine for a musical - THIS WAS JUST OKAY. Oscar worthy? NO

Great movie about dream, sacrifice and love! The acting was great and nuance of the play was fantastic. This is fine art!

User review rating: 2 February 05, 2017

Sorry, guess I don't have any taste. Just don't see what all the hoopla is about. I found it boring, boring, boring....

User review rating: 3 February 05, 2017

I like the actors in this film, but the script and overall movie is shallow. The two stars can sing, but they weren't given any scope to prove it. Music is palatable and forgettable. If you're bored, escaping a trying day or need a nap, this is the film to attend. If you want substance, try Hidden Figures - it's a real film about real people.

User review rating: 2 February 04, 2017

BORING, cannot understand the hype nor the Oscar's nomination.

User review rating: 5 February 03, 2017

One of the best and most enjoyable films I've seen which was pure "entertainment" without guns and people blowing eachother to smitherines. Hooray for Lalaland!!!

User review rating: 5 February 03, 2017

I love old movies and musicals and this combined both of those..I loved this movie. From the very scene I was hooked. I loved the songs that Ryan and Emma sang so sweet. I would recommend this movie a hint of old Hollywood!

La La Land is a fresh and beautiful blending of modern and classic musical styles. The engaging love story of a struggling young actress, (Emma Stone) and idealist jazz musician, (Ryan Gosling) is movingly told. Their performances are outstanding and award worthy. It is a timeless film classic.

Pretty boring really. Big disappointment considering all the hype. The scenery was beautiful and the dancing good but not much of a story and the ending was disappointing.

User review rating: 0 February 01, 2017

Actress in the movie have three lovers one after another. Poor description of women in the Western World.

User review rating: 2 January 31, 2017

The story was very disconnected. The music wasn't catchy. I like to have the music in my head when I leave.

User review rating: 5 January 31, 2017

the music did not get in the way of the story. Very enjoyable.

User review rating: 5 January 31, 2017

Will see it again!

User review rating: 2 January 30, 2017

Good acting but otherwise rather boring

User review rating: 1 January 30, 2017

OMG, so boring, I wish I hadn't wasted my time. I was with two people younger and oh we could hardly wait for it to be over

My wife, daughter & myself loved the show, I often think about how one different move in your life could completely change the course you travel.

Saw the movie once because it is my type of film, however, after all the hype I had to see it again to figure out what I missed. With all its flaws, I understand why Titanic received so many nods. This film was nowhere near that, although I did like it alot. Love Gosling and Stone. Will buy it on Dvd, but why is the direction and production design so unique? Woody Allen did the same thing with Everyone Says I Love You, Manhattan and Annie Hall. Not to mention the Scorsese "New York New York" jazz club scenes. On the other hand, I do hope this film's success rekindles filmgoers' love for musicals.

Bored out of my mind. I wanted to leave after 20 minutes, but thought it might get better. It never did.

User review rating: 3 January 30, 2017

Nice music and dancing. Acting ok but not award winning as suggested.

User review rating: 5 January 29, 2017

Truly captivating. Great acting, editing, and overall chemistry created by all elements coming together.

User review rating: 1 January 29, 2017

Poor acting....disjointed theme.......left after 30 minutes........

User review rating: 5 January 28, 2017

Fantastic movie--great acting and story plot!! I plan to see it again this week. I loved it!! I will buy the movie when it hits the stores!!

User review rating: 5 January 28, 2017

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did! A lovely movie - maybe if you've never dreamed of something you won't connect, but I LOVED IT!

User review rating: 3 January 28, 2017

I love musical film but I didn't "get" this one. I enjoyed the actors but they weren't singers.

User review rating: 1 January 27, 2017

So say this is a movie is brash mis-characterization of what a movie is supposed to be. The hype surrounding this piece of rotting fecal matter is nothing short of trying to pass a fresh dog turd off as a Tootsie Roll to your best friend who paid you $10 to put it in their mouth, laughing as you run away. If this movie crosses your mind, stay home and watch something fun on Netflix.

User review rating: 4 January 26, 2017

I really enjoyed this movie, I liked it more as it went on. Good music, good acting, and really well done! The ending was a tad disappointing though :(

User review rating: 3 January 26, 2017

OK, but I just don't get all the hype.

User review rating: 5 January 26, 2017

Cameras/lighting were miraculous. They captured the way films were made 50 years ago; with different lenses and using lighting instead of digital colorizing. THAT BEING SAID, it's a flimsy script - but it's a musical. If you're going for the intense acting/script in Fences - you'll be sad. But if you're up for the experience of vintage musicals you'll have fun. The opening highway dance scene is memorable.

User review rating: 5 January 26, 2017

Can't wait to see it again!

User review rating: 1 January 26, 2017

Over-hyped. Worn out story line. Way too long. Love Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone but their singing and dancing were borderline cringeworthy. Would not recommend this movie.

User review rating: 5 January 23, 2017

Best film I've seen in 40 plus years. Can't wait to see it again. And I usually don't see a movie more than once. Can't get the music out of my head. Loved it! Loved it!

User review rating: 5 January 23, 2017

LOVED it. Unlike any movie I've seen in this day and age, A bit of broadway musical and a Hollywood Classic movie. So sexy without having nude scenes like all the other movies and you use their "imagination" without it having to be a porno! HATE the Blow Everything Up/Shoot Em Dead, Violence, Vulgarity/Porno and the Zombie movies that are usually the only movies playing in theaters all the time. Gosling & Stone may not be the best singers and dancers but did an awesome job. They are big box office draws and placing some unknowns in this movie wouldn't have been as appealing to the public. Am praying this movie wins an Oscar!

User review rating: 1 January 22, 2017

Horrible! Don't waste your time.

User review rating: 5 January 21, 2017

Excellent. Will go again even though I seldom want to see something twice. Don't miss it.

User review rating: 5 January 20, 2017

Want to see it again!

User review rating: 5 January 20, 2017

Such a refreshing movie to see with a good message. Type of movie I would see over and over again. Love the music.

User review rating: 3 January 17, 2017

Loved the first 30 min and the overall flavor of the movie. Then it slowed way down to finally come alive again at the end. Got a little tired of close ups of Emma Stones big eyes. Too much of a good thing by the director. Nice date movie. Romantic. The orchestration was very good. Might buy the soundtrack. If the energy of the first 30 min had continued on I would have given it a ten !

Loved this movie!

User review rating: 5 January 17, 2017

I loved the story line, the music, the singing and dancing. It was simply just a GREAT movie|

User review rating: 5 January 17, 2017

I rated this movie very high!!! I am so surprised to see in the reviews how many did not like it. I do not think it was meant to compare to the old musicals. I thought it great that two people not really singers or dancers, did their own dancing and singing. I am going to see it for the second time. There is no one out there like Ryan Gosling. I can watch him in anything. Make more movies like this.

User review rating: 5 January 17, 2017

I loved the story line, the music, the singing and dancing. It was simply just a GREAT movie

User review rating: 4 January 16, 2017

Finally a great musical!! amazing work by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. nice story-very touching!! highly recommend with tissues available

User review rating: 2 January 16, 2017

I love movies, and I love musicals and this was so disappointing. I understand the wish to make a musical with "normal" people but that's the charm of a full-blown musical. Almost none of us are ever going to be able to dance like Astaire, Kelly, Charisse, Gaynor, etc. And not be able to sing like Julie Andrews, Kathryn Grayson, John Raitt, etc. and that's the point: These were professional dancers and singers. But, when you have two very attractive and very good actors who unfortunately can't sing nor dance convincingly, then it's just a bad highschool musical and, frankly, I was in excellent high school musicals with kids that were studying to be professional singers and dancers. That a lot of people enjoy this film is nice, but it's a pale shadow of what a great musical should be. There are so many great singers and dancers in Los Angeles, why in the World did they not give two of them a chance and let them star in this film or at the very least dub Emma's and Ryan's voices? What a sad missed opportunity.

Very good music, acting, cinematography, art direction, script, rhythm. For me, this is the best musical since Chicago and Moulin Rouge.

User review rating: 2 January 16, 2017

Two stars and that's being kind. No story. Bad dancing. Even if the stars were not good dancers they could've had actual dancers performing around them. This is not a throwback to old Hollywood. Those movies had good story lines and talented dancers. Watch Singing in the Rain - now that's a musical!

User review rating: 5 January 16, 2017

Loved it!!

User review rating: 5 January 16, 2017

Darn near perfect!!!!

User review rating: 4 January 15, 2017

Very good Emma stone is awesome in everything she does but this one is a game changer she has a singing voice like an angel and Ryan gosling plays a very cool collected character just hits it out of the park

User review rating: 2 January 15, 2017

Unique movie for these times. But as far as musicals go, it is flat and a flop; compared with the famous musicals of yesteryear (My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Riverboat, The Music Man...). the dancing and singing are very "lite" - no emotion. Opening sequence of dancing is dreadful- comprised of simple twirls, spins and flips on cars in traffic.. Some attempts at dream sequences, but do not succeed. The pace drags in many places. Gosling plays his character believably; Stone plays her character too superficially. No melodies that one can go away with humming. One star for the uniqueness, one star for Gosling's performance.

I knew it was a musical so... I loved the music and dance. I didn't feel it was too much. Fun story, I recommend it if you like this type of movie.
