Alice receives a surprise visit from her younger brother Nathan, who had recently moved to Japan. Although the reunion is at first joyful, when it takes an acrimonious turn, Nathan leaves abruptly on his motorcycle. Nathan is later found dead, having been hit by a car.
Overcome by grief, Alice flies to Japan to find her brother’s girlfriend. She tells Alice about Daisuke, a widowed ex-policeman who once stopped Nathan from jumping off the Tojimbo cliffs. Alice goes to the site in question, which has been the scene of many suicides. Feeling enormous guilt about her brother’s death, Alice faces a dilemma. Should she jump ? Or give life another chance ?
She comes face to face with Daisuke, who’s made it his mission to stop the wave of suicides. As he did for Nathan, this lonely and taciturn man lets Alice stay at his modest home at the foot of the cliff, where she meets other lonely and broken people, who have also saved by Daisuke.
