Retired professor Pierre Masson (Gabriel Arcand), 61, travels to Okinawa, Japan. He's planning to spend a quiet week alone on the secluded islands of the archipelago. However, when he meets Junko (Youki Kudoh), an attractive 40-year-old Japanese woman fleeing an abusive husband, his beliefs and his tranquility are shaken as he is confronted by a different culture.
