Married for more than ten years to Bertrand, a self-obsessed bicyclist who shamelessly cheats on her with stewardesses whenever he goes away on business for his construction firm, Marie-Do has subjected herself nevertheless to all of his whims: to only eat lamb and only drink Bordeaux wine, to listen to the songs of Jacques Brel over and over again, etc.

But one day, she meets a screenwriter named Antoine and falls for him. She decides to leave her boor of a husband. But Bertrand realizes his shortcomings and decides to try and win her back. In doing so, he develops a friendship with Antoine, who is inspired to write a screenplay based on their experiences.
