Alain (Gérard Depardieu) and Gisèle (Fanny Ardant) enjoy all of the trappings of a comfortable life—until their only son announces his plans to marry a Catholic girl. Facing an empty nest and midlife crisis, they decide on a whim to leave their upscale home in Paris and travel to Israel in search of their neglected Jewish roots.
The trip is a dream vacation that gives the relationship an unexpected second wind, eventually sparking a radical decision against the advice of friends and family. In opting for a fresh start, however, not everything goes according to plan, and the marriage is soon put to the test. Will love prevail?
