Toshio Suzoka (Kanji Furutachi) lives a peaceful life in Japan, running a small metalworking factory in the suburbs with his wife Fumie (Mariko Tsutsui), and 10-year-old daughter Hotaru (Momone Shinokawa). His daily routine is disturbed when one day by the sudden arrival of his old acquaintance, Kusataro Yasaka (Tadanobu Asano). Toshio hires Kusataro in his workshop. However, Kusataro, who was recently released from prison, begins to meddle in Toshio’s life.
