Happy Gilmore (Sandler), a hockey player wannabe fails once again to get on the local team. What's worse, his grandmother's house has been repossessed. Gilmore uses his lack of hockey talent towards golf, and finds he has quite a gift for the game he deems boring. He decides to use his gift to get on the PGA tour, and win as much money as possible to buy back his grandmother's house and get her out of the old folks home.
During his journey up the ranks, he meets Chubb (Weathers), a retired player who decides to coach Happy, the lovely Virgina (Bowen) who works for the tour, and current top player Shooter MaGavin (McDonald). With Gilmore's unusual playing talent gaining popularity, Shooter's annoying ego becomes threatened, and he decides to plot against Gilmore's success and happiness.
