Best friends Lorelei (Marilyn Monroe) and Dorothy (Jane Russell) are on their way to Paris while performing as lounge singers on a cruise ship. When they get to Paris Lorelei intends on marrying millionaire Gus Esmond (Tommy Noonan). What Lorelei and Dorothy do not know is that they are being tailed by a private investigator who was hired by Esmond's father to make sure that she is not a gold-digger.
