When Private Prewitt (Clift) is transferred to Hawaii, Captain Holmes (Ober) finds out about Prewitt’s boxing abilities and tries to coax him to join the team. Prewitt refuses, insisting his boxing days are behind him, but his refusal makes him a target.
In the meantime, Sergeant Milton Warden and Holmes’ wife (Kerr), who is also mistreated by the captain, find they have a mutual attraction, and they begin an adulterous affair.
