Tony West is a successful pharmaceutical executive living in LA with his loving wife Sofia. But after a day of tense negotiations with potential buyers, Tony comes home to find his wife missing-kidnapped--and the kidnappers demand he bring $50,000 to them within 90 minutes or she's dead.
The police are not an option; the only person he can confide in is his assistant Janet. Rushing to the bank at top speed, he can only withdraw $30,000 and, desperate, he calls his boss, Edward, for help. They agree on a wire transfer.
On his way back to his house, Tony attracts the police's attention but, afraid to stop, he punches the gas and eludes them temporarily, speeding home. Calling on his neighbor, Sumner, for help, Tony manages to sneak out his back door when the police inevitably show up.
But something's not right at Tony's house: there's evidence that someone has been there since Tony left. He leaves Sumner to investigate and takes off to the drop-off point.
