While standing trial for stealing a chicken in a supermarket, exuberant Violette attracts the attention of the press by saying she stole the chicken to feed her two starving children, each born of a different father. Her tirade solicits the attention of Paul-André, an enormously wealthy businessman whose only friend is his chauffeur. Desperate for companionship, Paul-André asks Violette to become his fiancée and live with him in his humble abode.
