Sorry, too many parallels to the middle east for me. I think of that region and get nauseous
Enlightening and Entertaining
Not much made sense. Of course they all shed their life giving helmets every time there is a fight, the bad guys have helmets on. And that horrible Johnny girl, she must be the bi-racial daughter of the producer, one angry glance after another is her acting chops. This Dune is of course the 2nd of the series of 32 more episodes, which will finish in 2033, June.
I asked my wife to go with me & made her watch Dune 1 on DVD before the theater trip for context. She enjoyed Dune 1 (in spite of her initial doubts) and we both were looking forward to Dune 2 in IMAX. Coming out of the theater we both agreed part 2 was dreadful compared to part 1. Jumpy script, disjointed editing and dialogue. We will not waste theater time on 'a future' part 3 & I will be hesitant to waste time watching a part 3 on a small screen. Such a disappointment for both my wife & me. I had to constantly apologize to her all the way home!!!
Having read the books wayyyy back when (as I'm the 1970s) and found them plodding and pedantic I was hoping that a modern movie rendition would add some much needed punch and pizazz to the series. No dice. This thing was dull and boring, and even the cgi couldn't add excitement to a plot that was boring in the 70s...! It appears that all the hype is by gen z viewers and reviewers trying to prove that they themselves have some depth by liking a "classic", but nothing can save this from the dud that it is. Seriously, save yourself some money and hard pass on this (or at least wait until it's free on Netflix, so that you can turn it off after 1/2 hour).
i love it
I loved Denis Villenueve first depiction of Dune in Part I, and I thought Part II was even better! Wow! The sights and epic portrayal was amazing! This is definitely a film you want to see on the big screen with premium screens and sound.
Going to the theater to see it again for the 3rd time! It was that amazing
Better than Part 1 -- can't wait for Part 3!
great special effects!
Acting was superb. Visuals/special effects top notch. I realize it is hard to adapt a book to a movie, especially for those seeing DUNE for the first time. That said: Dune 2 is a mirror of the 2nd book in the DUNE series called DUNE; MESSIAH. The theme of DUNE 2 is that young Paul Atreides finds out he is Indeed, "the ONE." Frank Herbert was VERY descriptive in his books, overtly so IMO. I read the first 3 books over 40 yrs ago and remembered that of the books. Keeping in line with the theme is actually done well, with a few parts "massaged" for the unknown audience to understand. The DUNE saga runs like a soap opera, so it is best to know the characters and watch their emotions/actions in the scenes to pick up on the theme carrying throughout the series. Don't go to the bathroom or get popcorn during the movie as every part is linked to the prior/next. All in all; a unique and great sci-fi well worth following.
I've read all the books. It isn't for people who read Harry Potter for sure. If you don't pay close attention to the movie, then you will be confused. This isn't a Marvel movie(thank goodness). This isn't just a movie, it is an event.
I must be weird but I dont get it. The effects were good but the story and plot? I thought it was just stupid.
Much better than the old one. Interesting how Disney productions can't make full featured back to back Star wars movies that don't suck. They want you to rent access on their channel which gets worse by the day. They're debased and asleep. Lol.
Loved the second installment of this epic sci fi tale. Cast and cinematography were amazing. I've seen it twice and can't wait for it to drop on one of the streaming platforms.
Such a great movie. I am seeing it again.
The more you think about the movie and what you saw, the less sense it makes, and the more puzzled you become. There is supposedly a Dune 3 on the horizon, but we're not going to see it. It's at best a popcorn flick if you check your brains at the door, but Hollywood has lost their marbles, and you will have to do same to enjoy. The soundtrack is hard bass, and loud, earplugs would help, but then they have moments of real silence with whispering. If you can get by how a planet has oxygen with no plants or water,................if you can get past not having a clue where the spice comes from or how sand worms grow to magical sizes without fluid, ......... if you can believe burlap wearers hole dwellers with no water, tools, or factory can manufacture technology better than the landing Aliens, ..........if you can believe a 110 lb boy can defeat every giant, beast, tank, or group with ease....... well then, this movie is for you. Don't reproduce.
Fantastic movie.
Good
Villanueva remains one of the most visually compelling directors, but his second trip to Arakis emphasizes an exotic aesthetic over coherence and pacing. Largely irrelevant segments of the source material get stretched in an hour-long interlude, while the center of the story is crammed in at the end. At the very least, this film needed a better editor. Beautiful, but somewhat disappointing.
It was okay and entertaining if not a little slow at times. A good movie but hardly a masterpiece.
One would think that with almost 3 hours of run time, Hollywood would be able to build a cohesive story and portray characters with enough depth that I'd care a lick about them. Neither was true. Dialogue was weak, scenes jumped from place to place without resolution or explanation, and I'm still not exactly sure what happened. And the talking fetus was just weird. Maybe if I was invested in the books it'd make sense, certainly the islamic apologetic wouldn't have been such a surprise.
Strange, weird, beautiful, spectacular, majestic and long. Don't drink anything in the 2 hours before the movie.
With a notoriously difficult book to bring to the screen, Denis Villeneuve has created a masterpiece. Staggering visually, narratively, and superbly acted, this film is an awe-inspiring epic that will be cited as one of our greatest sci-fi films, meaning it will be considered one of our greatest films. It's what big-budget movies are supposed to be, and further proves that auteur-driven films often produce the best results. Where David Lynch was able to walk, Villeneuve was able to run. A massive, intelligent film. We desperately need more of them.
For clarity, I LOVED Dune I. I understand that taking a book and putting it on screen is difficult and there has to be allowances for creative license. Being a Tolkien fan, I accepted those and loved the LOTR movies. But for the same reasons, I disliked The Hobbit for the excess license taken that was NOT TRUETO THE BOOK! Dune II was NOT TRUE TO THE BOOK. If you like/love the book, then be wary. Stilgar is a soppy fanatic. Chani is a bitchy skeptic. And Lady Jesica is a cold hearted, manipulative puppeteer. The final straw? The foot stamp at the end... Really? So juvenile. Susie-Dune Lover.
Good video effects and storyline. Superb casting, directing and visual effects. Dialogue could be a bit louder and not muffled. It's violent so don't take your kiddies there. Good entertainment for adults.
Seeing the movie once was enough. No desire to look up Part 1, which I missed. Yet, if the sequel supports the main characters getting back together, I might be in. It was an unusual Love Story. My favorite part was the love story angle. The fantasy of the desert worms was not my favorite but did support suspense and action. The idea of killing the soul for water was creepy.
Within the first 20 minutes a peaceful advisor has their throat cut and their head smashed in. There are roughly 4 more scenes like it. Most of the movie is about political maneuvering and gorilla warfare involving tactical positioning - gun fights, bombs and knife fights. If you are sensitive, easily bored, or below 13, this movie is not for you. If you appreciate these things, know that the movie also offers fantastic music, breath taking visuals, truly moved by the acting , amazing costume design. Absolutely worth seeing this on a big screen.
The person who gave one star due to the violence, needs to take responsibility for bringing the kid in the first place. Ratings are there for a reason and people who ignore them have no right to complain. The one star ratings given really have nothing to do with the quality of the movie. It's a fantastic movie. Go see it. Leave the kids home.
Violent stop letting these young kids into these movies. No wonder their is so much crime around
For the person under this comment: there´s a reason why the movie is rated PG13. It is not for fragile little children. The first part had fight scenes too, so what did you expect? How braindead one has to be to give low rating just because their kid WHO ISN´T SUPPOSED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE in the first place was scared of some violent scenes? Cinematography, acting, VXF, sound editing...nothing matters because a kid was scared. Give me a break... The spider monster in Part 1 was far more disturbing than the fights. But somehow that was OK for the kid when he was even younger.
Based on part one, we decided to take our 11 year old. This was a failure on my part. The movie was incredibly violent and I had to take my son out halfway through. His face told me all I needed to know! I didn't enjoy it very much either. The violence overshadowed everything else. My son said he liked the worm riding part, lol.
Although I missed watching Part One first... The storyline & action sequence of all thespians & extras didn't drag on. Each scene was well played. Well worth the entertainment value. Rebecca FERGUSON; Zendaya; Lea SEYDOUX; & Florence PUGH were all stunning!! Austin BUTLER's performance was a stand alone throughout all his scenes --- kudos. The rest (all) of the casts were spot on in their respective characters.
Stands with empire strikes back and Lord of the rings two towers level of sequel
This is truly epic storytelling. Superb casting, directing and visual effects. A must see film .A great movie watching experience.
Superb special effects and appealing performers! Paul feels like a real person here, and we're on his side from the beginning. Lady Jessica is a stunner, as is the actress who plays Chani (Blade Runner's Sean Young).
The low ranting "reviews" must be paid Disney shills who try to sabotage the rival company. There is no other way how anyone could be so illiterate. And since when is the Lynch´s version "classic"? It´s an incomprehensible mess with shallow characters, while this new version has a time and the director has the skills to flesh out the characters, so people who haven´t read the books are not lost. And every frame is a painting. The switch to BW (actually infrared) for the arena fight under the black sun is brilliant!
Javier Bardem is the reason to see this movie, while Chalamet and Butler are alternatively sulky and laughably earnest. Even the sandworms disappoint and the score drones on and on for close to three hours. Best options are to read the book or watch the original classic in 4K; this sleeper is busy snoring away.
Two hours and 45 minutes of wanton violence here. Yeah, yeah... It's about evil. There's a lot of it. Hans Zimmer soundtrack was OK. Zendea was cool. But the violence!
This movie is the best. Haven't seen a movie this good in a long time.
Awesome in every aspect from the visual and sound effect to the characters and the actors who play them so well. Must-see on the big screen!
Just for the sound design alone , well worth the wait , multiple change's to source material , so be warned , looking forward to three , Holy War . One bone to pick , last act , someone cut Timothy s hair , not a fan, it made him look between nerd account, and and my cousin Lenny . My cousin has no neck . LOL
I like the new wave of young fresh and new actors. The movie is a puzzle in the book, but the Genius director put it together and made it great as did the actors Portraying the different movie roles>
Loved this movie. The second half is really good.
It's this year's Barbie.
Great job all around..
Best movie sequel since Empire Strikes Back
Everything, everything, everything!
Great job all around and visually stunning..
Stick with the original.
