When the local factory shuts down, Yusuf, now unemployed, leaves the village of Anatolie for the big city. He hopes to find a job working on a ship in order to support his ailing mother back home. When he arrives in Istanbul, he shows up at the home of his cousin Mahmut, an advertising photographer who gave up his ambitions of being a screenwriter. Indifferent to the world around him, which includes an ex-wife, a mistress and his family, Mahmut lives alone in a luxurious apartment. However, the arrival of this distant cousin with his country ways upsets Mahmut's routines and well-ordered life.
