Fanny, a Montreal arborist, spends her nights crying for people who need help but can’t find it. On a cold autumn day, the solitary and melancholy young woman helps her neighbor Joséphine, who has fallen on the pavement. This never-married 75-year-old woman tells Fanny about the man who was in love with her when they were young, and her regret that she didn’t follow him to the United States.
Later on a viaduct, Fanny saves a teenager called Carole from suicide, then tries to comfort her. Finally, as a volunteer reader for the blind, Fanny finds serenity with Jean-Luc, a blind man who still loves art and beauty.
