This was the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. It is the first time I have ever felt like walking out of the theatre. The characters were shallow and undeveloped. There was no onscreen chemistry between Julia Roberts and Jude Law, nothing to create an emotional connection for the viewer. As an actress she was totally flat lining it through the whole movie. You can watch any movie and overlook the vulgarity if the story is good, and you connect to the characters, but in this instance you just leave the theatre saying `What was that all about?`
Terrible movie!! What a waste of money. About 8 people walked out halfway through the movie. No plot and just a bunch of cheaters doing what cheaters do. Really really terrible movie. Don`t go see it.
Awesome, If you typically like British Films you will enjoy this!
WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i give it ZERO stars
this was by far the worst movie i have ever seen in my life, it was garbage no plot no story it was very stupid, it`s a waste of time and money. this movie sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clive Owen was the worst he can`t act for beans. the trailer is very misleading, don`t watch this movie it`s horrible.
SAVE YOUR $$$ MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. VULGAR IN THE EXTREME.
Very boring and slow moving. Good movie to go to if you need a nap.
This movie blew me away! The provocative language and content was shocking, but addressed in a very mature way. It provides a realistic look at the complexities of relationships.
the worst movie ever
I love Jude - always have, always will. Julia was truly fabulous in probably the best performance she`s ever given. Clive deserves the Oscar!!!
A bunch of cheaters and a stripper. Who cares?
It`s really hard to say that this movie is either good or bad. I just sort of walked out of there at the end thinking "what the heck just happened in the last 104 mins." There really isn`t much of a plot - its more of a voyeuristic experience than anything - watching a bunch of adults cheating on each other, confessing to each other and then reuniting. I suppose there is some underlying meaning to the whole thing, but it isn`t profound enough to make me recommend the movie to anyone. I am shocked that the critics are giving it such rave reviews - they must be seeing something that I am not! And the sheer fact that 3 people walked out of
This movie was terrible! I could seriously say it compares to planet of Apes (and I walked out on that one...). This movie was an impossible attempt at being brilliant. The director obviously tried way too hard to impress. Julia Roberts and Jude Law give absolutely rotten performances. Clive Owen was sensational, delivering a strong, mature performance throughout the entire movie. Essentially, I tried really hard to look for relevant symbolism, but all I found was tiresome clichés and hit and miss dialogue. You can then imagine my utter dissapointment when I found out there is no Portman nudity!
An excellent, intense movie with good acting, particularly from Natalie Portman and Clive Owen, and good dialogue. One of the best movies I`ve seen this year.
Surprising. You expect a movie like an affair to remember but you find the real truth about relationships today
I want Julia. She rocks.
Was a great film, people who dislike, do so becasue they dont take the time to understand. At the end of the movie, just think about it. The story was realistic and in the end, you will feel emotions, I did, and Im a guy. Watch this movie, but watch it and listen, casue you need to understand.
pretti good movie, with an interesting re-used plot for the two couples, da stars shine, and it was worth the admission ticket
I think this is one of the best movies I`ve seen all year. Adult, sexy, funny, painful, with amazing acting from all parties. BUT, the star of the film is Clive Owen who is simply amazing. He certainly deserves all the nominations he`s been getting. I cannot wait for the DVD to come out.
the worst movie ever
Dissapointing, and overrated. The story line has potential, and the acting is quite good, but the script is mediochre and very unbelievable, as are the characters` actions. Clive Owen is this film`s saving grace, if it has any grace, he is amazing. Robert`s character is boring, Portman`s annoying, Law`s is over the top. At the end you will be like, huh? what the hell? worth a $5 movie ticket, no more.
Julia is such a fox, People who enjoy this movie will probly have some concept on how betrayal feels on either end. If you`ve always been lucky in love or in some serious denial about your relationship, you`ll probly think it`s boring or vulgar. Have fun!
Absolutely terrible. I hated this movie and have also decided I pretty much hate every movie Jude Law is in. Talk about an actor being OVERRATED!!!! He does absolutely nothing for me.
Natalie Portman is a very attractive young woman. I appreciate the her character portrayal of realism. I really felt for her and thought to myself, "Wow she is a great gal, she deserves better than that." I guess you can never judge a book by its cover. However, I thought that she is a lesson to learn from for most guys when dealing with any woman that you do not know well. It took "old boy" four years to find out about her situation. Come on fellas, circumspection is my favorite word when it comes to women. Circumspection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Overall, I thought it was a good story.
Wow, entirely overrated as it is being called one of the best movies of the year. Not a total waste of time but not nearly as profound as it tries to be. This movie spends far too much time trying to be clever and rarely is. Well acted by good actors playing shallow characters a - C.
Amazing acting, amazing story, amazing everything! I am absolutely in love with this movie
Thought provoking. However, at times the dialogue seems a little contrived....or a lot like seeing a play. Which makes a bit of sense seeing that the movie is based on a play. However it also makes little sense seeing as there are many gifted screenwriters who should be able to adapt something decent for the big screen. All the actors seemed a little grittier and a little less attractive than in real life...but maybe that`s what made it so engrossing. I wanted to see more, while all the while hating every character. Kinda like watching Omarosa....you just can`t wait to see what horrible things they`ll say and do next. An intere
1 reason too see this movie & that`s natalie portman. She`s so hot.
if you wanna see a movie that`s gonna potray human emotions as versatile and "sans" glamour, as one possibly could,go and see this movie...it makes you think about yourself, your relationships and those you share them with....it is not a movie coated with sugar....one of the best movies,i`ve ever seen....loved it,loved it,loved it
This is the worst picture I have ever seen in my 63 years of movie going. Even Christmas with the Kranks was far better. Jamie Lee Curtis is a much better actor than Julia Roberts. Julia is a no talent in this movie with little emotion. A "Ten Fingers Down" type of movie. To sum it all up - BORING - BORING - BORING. If this movie was to delve into personal relationships and focus on honest feelings - what should we expect next - a bathroom scene that will last 2 hours? Thnis is where this mvoie should end up - down the toilet!
What a waste of talent! Only Natalie Portman gave a terrific performance. I could not even remotely identify on any level with the others. Go see Sideways instead.
Sooooooooo true to life.... It kinda makes u think ... i dunno.... this movie was ok it wasn`t the greatest but it was good cuz it had JUDE LAW in it. i liked the story line tho it makes u think alot about how human nature is and wat we do to get wat we want. over all it was good it still doesn`t bet ALFIE THO I STILL LOVE U JUDE AND ALL THE MOVIES U`VE MADE
This movie was terrible. There was no plot, no climax of the movie... nothing. I can`t believe that Julia Roberts even took this part. It`s 2 hours and $13 that I just can`t get back.
This movie was quite the let down. From the previews I thought it was going to be amazing. The feeling that I got from this movie is the the director tried so hard to be insightful and tried to jam pack the movie with so much symbology that he loses the audience and ends up making no sense. The movie keeps jumping from scene to scene without serving any purpose. I understand what the director was trying to show the audience, I think he just went overbord and ended up boring people.
This movie was amazingly REAL - which is more than I can say for 95% of what comes out of `feel-good/fantasy` hollywood. Most often we only see what glitters in love - and if there is any trouble portrayed, it is light or cast in a comedic context. In Closer, the true extremeties of emotion that come with love, sex and relationships are brilliantly portrayed. I found this film to be amazing.
This is a brutally honest film about relationships.
Fabulous! Gripping and very real. I think Clive Owen steals the show from three other wonderful performers who are in top form. Jude Law is wonderful. I can`t think of another movie with only four people in it. A movie where the two hunk men stars show their tender and vulnerable side, crying and begging for love. I`ve seen it twice already and will certainly see it many more times. What wouldn`t I give for Clive Owen to look at me like he looks at Natalie Portman in the gallery!
One big conclusion of this movie: men are jerks! Men in this movies use different tactics to lure their women to bed, and played well to win double Jerpordy (Jude). Of course some of them had their punishment, some left unarrested. Julia was at a win-win situation, then all in a sudden, she was back to a lose-lose situation with a twist of Owen. However, the sad girl Alice went from a lose-lose to win-win situation. Life is in your control ~ if you play it well. This movie makes you think
I was so disappointed in this movie. It was a waste of time to view a film of this caliber and so sad that Julie Roberts would agree to do this movie.
CLOSER IS BEAUTIFUL. FINALLY A FILM FOR ADULTS! THIS FILM WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT MIKE NICHOLS (DIRECTOR) AND THE AMAZING CAST!!! A MUST-SEE OF 2004
"Closer"--drop off the "r" & that`s what should happen! Anybody liking it?? Take off the "C" & for "Loser" --that`s what my husband & I felt about paying $12.00 to see it!
a frighteneningly honest perception of how jaded love and romance have become
SOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE TO LIFE SOOOOO REAL TAT IT HURTS JUDE LAW WAS AWESOME AND SOOOOOOO SEXC
This movie is horrible, terrible, and a waste of money. Boring plot, lame script, and just made absolutely no sense at all. I don`t understand how anyone who has seen this movie can give it a high rating. Supposedly this was an extreme movie with lots of extreme nudity and sex, but this was pretty tame in my opinion. The only thing else that I can add about this movie is that it is over, over-hyped. Don`t waste your time or money seeing this piece of junk.
slow and ambiguous but honest, makes u think
Brilliant, gruesome and frightening but keeps you continually thinking.
Thankfully it had Julia Roberts and Jude Law in it. Otherwise, this movie would be unwatchable. Its a renter!
Wonderful theatrical performance. I never lost my attention during the whole film even though it was only a four-people performance.
a very cynical look at human nature-a good flick to see and discuss after.
Kept thinking I missed something? I still don`t get it?
