Pure awfulness.
An hour & a half of torture. The singing was endless and felt like it was self promoting. The actual “movie” barely told the full story and was under 30mins. The music should’ve been saved at the end, so you can leave if you didn’t want to hear it. This was poorly done. It’s basically for the artists and not the story of Jesus. A group of people walked out during the music portion and I almost did too. The “movie” should have been at least just as long as a normal episode. How is it the shortest episode and it’s the one in theatre?? I think Dallas is forgetting the purpose of this show and is loving the popularity he and the show is now receiving. This movie did not spread the good news.
My husband and I have been enthusiastic supporters of The Chosen from the first episode. It's ironical that the director references the objective and goal of authenticity in telling this story. We found the music video portion of this movie anything but authentic. There must be several dozen Christian musicians who could have authentically shared their brilliant artistry -- without the very "appearance oriented" superficiality.

Trailer was misleading, distracting hair-styles, need better make-up crew. Liked the tennis shoes....
I wanted to see the story of the nativity and Jesus birth. Complete with the wise men shepards in the fields. All of it. This 30 minute movie was like a trip to the labor and delivery ward of an ancient society. The first hour and a half was self promoting singers. So disappointing. Do not waste your time
After reading the reviews, I almost didn’t go see this movie. I was pleasantly surprised. The music was tasteful, the names of God woven throughout explaining how they pointed to the savior were moving, and the movie itself (though I wish it was longer) was consistent with the quality of the series. If you go, know that this is a Christmas “worship experience.” If you love the series, buy a ticket, grab some popcorn, kick back, and be blessed knowing that the money you spend is helping make it possible for the series to continue and be made available to others around the world. If you go in with this mindset, you’ll will find it an enjoyable time.
This is shameless self promotion that departs greatly from the authentic, gritty series. Felt forced and was genuinely painful to watch. I’m literally writing this in the movie theater while mainstream artists (mostly overplayed white guys- with a few vaguely refreshing exceptions) have been singing for over an hour. I am so thankful I didn’t invite my non Christian friends and family to come to this. I can’t believe they signed off on this- from a grassroots, community led project to an overproduced, fake-emotion music video promotion where cameras zoom in on huge diamond rings and every song is clearly lip synced!? What happened!?
You will enjoy this movie immensely if you watch it with a heart of worship! The music was good and the depiction of the birth of Jesus brought tears to this old man's eyes. DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS. GO SEE THIS MOVIE.
We brought our grandkids to see Christmas With The Chosen thinking they would be inspired by the Christmas story portrayed by a well done professionally produced movie. All this ended up doing is reinforcing their belief that the story of Jesus a boring tale for old people. It was an awful experience of endless music videos with my wife was so disappointed she left the theater in tears.
This is definitely not a Christmas with the chosen. It was a rock concert with much attention on musicians and not uplifting Christ. I have been moved powerfully throughout the chosen series. This was a huge let down. I would not recommend this to anyone, especially not a lost person. Very disappointed!
So disappointed, it was nothing like the amazing series. As a Christian musician, this was way way too much & not expected & feel the two should not have been combined. Where were the shepherds? The music could have been the angels singing!
The music was way to long and the story line was rushed. Then more music . A hot mess!!
I loved this movie and the music was phenomenal but I think my favorite part was the portrayal of the journey of Mary and Joseph to the night Jesus was born and their innocence as first time parents. This re-enactment made the nativity story come to life in a whole new way! This movie was very much like the Christmas episode last year from The Chosen cast with several musical performances intertwined with the cast of characters re-telling the stories and insights of the Bible. Those who are complaining just didn't understand that it wasn't supposed to be an actual movie but a Chosen experience to remember. It was exactly what I expected and I loved it and am happy to help raise funds for them to continue making quality shows to bring Jesus to everyone! Everyone must KNOW!!
Such artifice and slick fakeness. I had had enough of the faux-worship posturing and lip-synching after the 3rd song. My wife, a big Chosen fan, asked me to take her to the movie and she even apologized to me when it was over. We won't be duped by these guys again.
I am not even sure what to say... I have supported the Chosen from the first episode and love the cast and the way our faith is portrayed in a very tangible way. All that you needed to do was to tell the story. Our culture has been all about selling Jesus to people for many years the last time I read the scriptures he's not for sale its a free gift offered to humanity if we just accept Jesus as King. This seemed like entertainers selling themselves and I sure it will only promote our culture being able to further call the church hypocrites that look perfect because that is what was portrayed. Your leading for the movie started with a humble beginning in a friends back yard I would suggest going back to those beginnings and finding the Spirt that lead you to start the Chosen in the beginning, its in that place you will find Jesus.... Not at the alter of entertainment.
False advertising! This is not a movie! It’s an hour+ music video with a 20 minute clip about Mary. My husbands office rented out two theatre rooms for their company wide Christmas party thinking they could play a part in people learning about Jesus’ birth. Whoa! We got duped! What a disappointment!!
Loved this movie - the music & story was so moving! Going back again today!
The singing was beautiful but too long and I got bored. The 20 minute movie was well done but way too short. Not at all what I expected. Love The Chosen series and look forward to season three.
I loved the show. I knew there would be a lot of Christian music so I wasn't surprised. I loved the story of Joseph and Mary, very authentic, I believe. I especially loved the children's choir. I was inspired by all of it. I may go again.
I love the first two seasons of The Chosen but this was a complete disappointment. The birth of Christ was less than half of this movie. The rest was a long promotion for random singers. It's was nothing but awkward music videos with forced smiles. I came for Jesus not this insufferable self-promotiung garbage.
I thought this would be a quality, creative movie depicting the biblical history of Christ's birth. The singing was outrageously long and felt contrived and out of place. Very convoluted and disappointing. The short movie portion was decent, but due to the opening tedious music scenes, it felt uninspiring by that point.
Way too long and boring
We just saw the movie with some friends and loved it! Our opinion on the music and and different messages that were shared is completely the opposite of those who complained about it being too long. We all agreed that the music and messages were the perfect preface to the beautiful story about the birth of Jesus. Go see the movie!!!
I wish they kept the music to the end so it’s my choice to stay or leave.
The movie was only 20 minutes!
I'm glad I didn't take anyone searching for Jesus. After a fashion show of white clothes and hats, it was the camera man using the zoom feature in and out, up noses, etc. To showcase the rock concert. We were the only ones in the theater and I see why now ... If you're goal is entertainment, go for it. If you're looking for Christ and wanting to humble yourself, forget it.
Nice to have a movie the whole family can go to together!
I was wondering why the movie theater is empty, After 75 minutes I am giving up and leaving. This is unacceptable. Endless amount of singing and talking. Sooooooooo annoyed.
I am so disappointed never, ever will I be going to see another Chosen movie. Endless singing and talk.
This movie is about promoting the singers! It’s not about our Lord the Christ. I am already 60 minutes in the movie and immensely irritated by this non- stop singing and talking. Absolutely unacceptable! Shame on you for selling this movie in the name of Christ.
I came for a movie, not to be converted. Why so much dialogue??? And singing???
I didn’t care for the singing nor the talking. I want my money back!
Endless singing and talking ???? For shame!
The movie part was good, the monologues were ok, the music videos were insufferable! I did not come for the singers, I came for the movie.
The music was superb and the story well done.
It was a beautiful and powerful movie. So moving and inspirational.
I am a pastor of a church in Bismarck N.D. Our church contributed alot of money towards the crowdfunding for season 2 of The Chosen - because we loved their work and believe in their cause of promoting the Gospel. But this movie was very disappointing. I invited my church to go to this together - felt bad for those who attended. We all agreed - the movie part was good, the monologues were ok, the music videos were insufferable - a shameful attempt to promote artists. Subjectively, most of the music were poor remakes. The Chosen series is authentic, raw, and honest - the exact opposite of these over-produced, lip-syncing music videos. The whole thing felt like a bait and switch - we come for a movie, but then have to sit through an hour long music commercial. I immediately recommended to my congregation to NOT see the movie - but stick with the series. We all make mistakes in judgment sometimes, and grace is needed. But Dallas in my opinion definitely made a mistake signing off on this project. I hope he listens to the honest feedback from his audience and learns not to sell out to this style again. We love The Chosen - the movie portion was pretty good - but we didn't love the surrounding fluff. I sadly gave this a rating of only 2 out of 5 stars.
Nothing glorified God or Christ by those fake lip syncing singers, I’m not sure if some of them believe what they were singing. Church people love to support Christian project but not money making scheme like this. Very disappointed.
It was so bad I had to close my eyes and pray. Dripping with over-the-top manufactured emotion, song after unending song. I was so uncomfortable. And I’m a Christian! Absolute rubbish, I’m embarrassed for this film.
No! Do not waste your hard earned money!! It’s all Music, and not even that inspirational, ZERO Christmas Spirit after this SCAM was over!! I LOVE JESUS and feel bad that people were so mislead!! Shame on you!!
I loved everything about it! The music was a perfect part of the story. I liked the story reflecting the reality of the nativity.
I did not like or would not recommend this musical. All songs and talking...where is the christmas movie?? We expected a Christmas movie!! Plus it is a special "movie" so we paid more and are very disappointed!!! I asked my friends to come.
TOOOO many songs....
Filled with hope at a time when the majority of entertainment is dark and dystopian. It is predominantly a Christmas musical with a message.
Loved it!
Leaves you stunned at the humbleness of a baby born in a lowly stable with such impoverished conditions, and at the same time jumping for joy in worship and praise that He is with us. “People need to know” has never meant so much…
The movie was great, inspiring and realistic, but the music was overkill, trying to focus on the unknown artists and their comments, it was more like a lecturing, I was so annoyed, ready to walk out after what seemed like forever approximately 75 minutes of singing, when the actual movie started. Disappointed in the egotistic, self-centered intro!
The Cain song Commission, Bonner family, and Breath Heaven song with dramatic reading and show would have been more than enough! The episode was touching, could have been longer. More Chosen, less singing! Bring tissues!!The show itself was amazing!!
I loved the beginning with actors from the Chosen explaining certain aspects of Jesus birth, the singing (staged so well!) was beautiful! A children's choir singing "What Child is This?", angelic! For the musicians, their hearts were in it! The movie of Christ's birth, they made it authentic and relateable, both Mary and Joseph were frightened, not knowing what to expect. It touched my heart!
