Outstanding, great cinamaphotography, and supporting actress.
This movie has moved, and touched me in so many ways that I cannot put into words. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were EXCELLENT in portraying the two lovers struggling with their feelings for one another! Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway also did the movie justice with their peformance in the movie. By far, I believe this is the best "love"/ "romance" movie I have ever seen! Bravo to Ang Lee and his wonderful direction for this movie, and also bravo to Annie Proulx for whom this story would not have been possible!
Jake Gyllenhaal nad heath are great actors and both have the looks i hope they both come out with a great movies in the future.
As a hetero guy who was invited to see this, but not particularly interested in the film (and to be honest I was a little nervous going in), I was blown away at how great this movie was. You actually don`t think too much on the fact that it`s two guys because you get caught up in the story. If you can get past the early sex scene that so many people have such a problem with (I was expecting much worse, from the way some people are ranting) then you`re in for a real treat. It is a truly touching story and is incredibly well acted (especially Heath Ledger - Wow). Two thumbs up!
The only thing good about this movie is the beautiful scenery. The rest is a waste of time and money. HIGHLY OVERRATED.
Very disappointed... found it too long and boring.
Excellent performance by Jake and Heath and beautiful music and nature.
I expected to feel empathy for the two leads. I didn`t. That to me, tells me the film didn`t work, the director didn`t do what he set out to do. Two thumbs down.
Though well done, this film is ultimately dull and does not bring anything new to the audience. Sure it is about a gay couple, but that really only serves the purpose of setting the relationship up as a "forbidden love". Twenty years ago the exact same film would have been made about an inter-racial couple. In this day and age, such a thing would be less "shocking", thus the update to a less "acceptable" relationship. The film is essentially a study of how the characters react to being in a forbidden relationship. By the end of the film, any empathy I might have had for the characters was gone, and I found myself disliking both the peopl
THE WORLD ISN`T READY
Beautiful scenery, very sad love story.
loved it cause ittold the story without preaching orteaching it showed both the healing and destructive power of love
I went to see this movie expecting to want to see it again and again. The best word I could use to describe it would be disappointing. I really wanted to like it, I was prepared to be blown away and to leave the theatre in absolute awe. Instead I left the theatre feeling very flat. The scenery was breathtaking, and the story was unique. But it was just pretty flat. I will say that I loved the characters, and I thought that Heath and Jake did a great job, and should be commended for taking on the roles of two guys exploring their sexuality.
It has a powerful message that I hope will foster tolerance but I found it to be a very slow moving movie and it didn`t live up to all the hype. Most movies these days don`t.
One of the greatest movies ever. We are lucky to live on 2005 and not on 1963. Ennis and Jack, we will never foget you.
it was ok but maybe would be better with less gay sex.
perfecit fantastic I`ve been really touch by this movie
It is a very emotional story. As the movie evolves, I begin to see the two men`s relationship simply as a relationship of two lovers who really want to be together, but struggles due to the cruelity of the society`s acceptance. Ang Lee puts the viewers right into the actor`s position. It is a beautiful story of love, humanity and struggle. The music also works very beautifully with the film.
best movie of 2005!
I gave this 4 stars. The acting was good - not great but good. They must have been very hard roles for these gorgeous straight actors. I was not as touched with the movie as others were - a lot of sniffling could be heard in the theatre towards the end. The ending itself could have been better - one was left with a feeling of needing more answers. I am glad I went to see this movie but would not go and see it again.
A Classic in the making, this one will last. It has the universality of tragedy and the truth of lived experience.
I have been seening this movie five times and I still want to see it again. What is wrong with me?
beautiful love story great perfomances, I cryed.
This is a typical hollywood movie! one of the worst movies i`ve seen in recent times. I agree that the lead stars` performance should be criticized. It was naive for the 2 hunk-actors to accept roles like this, and they failed! If i were to give a score for this movie, on a scale of 1 to 10 (being the highest), i`ll give it 1 star!
the worst movie ever made!!! Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are horrible in this movie! DISGUSTING i hated it!
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal do a bottom rate job at portraying Ennis and Jake. I grew up in the same time period with the same feelings and did exactly oppposite what Ennis and Jake did. As I watched the movie, I was sure it was a fake story as I`m sure countless other men did. The worlds disgust of such a perversion did not deter men like them in their filthy prisons. Bad job Jake and Heath and thank you for Hollywood for glamorizing a story that needed to be trashed, and did it with such nudity.
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal do a first rate job at portraying Ennis and Jake. I grew up in the same time period with the same feelings and did exactly what Ennis and Jake did. As I watched the movie, I was sure it was my story as I`m sure countless other men did. The worlds intolerance of such a love locked men like them in their emotional prisons. Great job Jake and Heath and thank you for telling a story that needed to be told, and did it with such passion.
This story needed to be told and Ang Lee directs the best cast. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are perfect for Ennis and Jack. Two handsome cowboys from the 60`s that struggle with who they really are but become what society says they should become. Just like me, they make a shambles of the relationships with the women in their lives. Something is missing and they find it with each other. Bravo to the cast and crew for putting their best foot forward. I`ve seen the movie 10 times now and will probably see it again as I see and feel something new each time.
I saw this movie with my gay brother and my gay son, one hated it and one loved it. It`s not just a movie about homosexuality, it is a heart felt love story that encompasses all of life`s struggles, joys, devastations and triumphs. It is an honest look at the emotions of homosexual men living in the sixties, when being gay was deemed evil, and gay men had to marry women to convince themselves that they were not evil. We`ve come a long way in the last 40 years, but there`s still a long way to go.
the greatest movie ever made!!! Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are great in this movie! FANTASTIC i loved it!
I have been seen this movie for three times and I still cannnot move my eyes and heart from it. I like both Jack and Ennis, but I should say that I perfer Jack. The actor Jake is very sexy in this movie and I am a girl who loves a guy like him.
I`m an avid filmgoer and went to see this with great anticipation after reading and hearing so many rave reviews. Unfortunately, I have to say that I was disappointed and thought it was very overrated. I have many quibbles, here are a few: There was no build-up to neither Jack + Ennis` first lovemaking scene nor their first fight, they both just seemed to happen. And for their entire relationship afterwards I didn`t see any tenderness displayed, not a single loving glance between them. I kept waiting for the movie to get better and I never really felt it clicked in, apart from the beautiful scenery it didn`t hold my interest. I also found the
This film underscores how difficult it was for two men to love each other during the 60s and 70s and how far we`ve come in just 30 or so years. Still, in rural areas gay love is still subject to harassment proving we still have a long way to go before we`re fully accepted by all in society.
Brokeback Mountain is definetely one of the best movie of the year. When I first saw it, i went with my ex- girlfriend. I was terrified and embarrass because of all the gay comments. Finally when i stoped worring and started paying attention to the movie I touched my heart. I was 99 percent close to crying (But you apperances). Guy, Girls whoever please don`t listen to do bad review and go and see Brokeback Mountain. You`ll be touched and the movie will be in your head for hours. Go I triple dare you.
proves that America can still make truly great movies
I love this movie so much and I saw it twice. I love both Jack and Ernice in the movie. I love them so much.
A movie well worth seeing, but for those who are not confident in their sexuality it could result in them being ill at ease. The scenery is fantastic. The story and acting true to life. Five stars all the way.
Brokeback Mountain is a one of a kind movie. This movie has to be one of the greatest love stories I have ever seen. There are some scenes that you have to figure out which one is a true fact. That is one of the things I loved about this movie. The love between these two guys is totally unblievable and heart backing at the same time. Iwould rate Brokeback Mountain--out of 10 I would rate it a 20.
Brokeback mountain was an abosolutely amazing movie. It moved me in ways that I`ll never forget.
I thought brokeback mountain was a very haunting film that makes us all re-evaluate what love really is. This love was between two men but that fact hardly gets in the way of a powerful and beautiful story. The characters have a nobleness about them and you can feel the pain they endure. Would we all not want a love as strong as this? The outcome of the movie really broke my heart.True love denied...what a tragedy in any form.
Another step forward in brainwashing the masses into believing that sex between men is normal by putting it onscreen in a mainstream movie. Congratulations.
Splendid movie for all lovers!
In a word OVER-RATED. While the performances of the lead actors are great and the movie beautifully shot, the movie itself is just okay. Like "Philadelphia" years ago, which was simply an okay movie that drew accolades from fawning Hollywood due to its perceived ground-breaking subject matter, so too is this movie being lauded for breaking a taboo subject and once again, Hollywood is tripping over itself to congratulate itself.
The absolute best movie made to date....... Loved it yet it`s very sad
Agreed that this movie starts out slow but it pulls you in and makes you forget where you are and that the two main characters are having a homosexual relationship. You see them as two people in love. Fabulous and haunting...it stays with you long after you leave the theatre.
Great movie. Regarding some of the comments made - Ennis knew he would marry Alma when his job at Brokeback Mountain is over. He was not about to meet other men for sex until he met up with Jack years later. It was not like he cheated on Alma for the whole time! When he left Brokeback Mountain, he would not know whether he will hear from Jack or not - if ever again. Even if he chose not to marry Alma and have the kids, he would probably remain as a loner for rest of his life. Ennis` love is for Jack alone - not just for just any men out there. On that point, I think it is better for some of you to get a copy of the novel and read it as it is
An extrodinary film! Definatly a movie that should be seen be all! Amazing acting by by both Ledger and Gyllenhaal. Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams nail the roles of the wives who suspect that they might not be the love of there husbands lives! 5 star film!
I disagree with the comment below. Society does not want or expect homosexuals to marry women. That would be hurting innocent people. Not to mention children, if they come into the picture. Imagine someone marrying you, only to find out they used you to make themselves look a certain way. How selfish is that. Movie was mediocre, by the way. I found it boring and didn`t empathize with the two leads at all. Scenery was gorgeous, though.
A tragic love story of two lonely men that discover love for each other. Homosexual love scenes, and a slow story are sure to turn off many movie goers. The scenery cannot make up for such a slow story. Not even worth a rental.
This is a breakthrough movie! one of the best movies i`ve seen in recent times. I agree that the lead stars` performance should be recognized. It was brave for the 2 hunk-actors to accept roles like this, and they succeeded! If i were to give a score for this movie, on a scale of 1 to 10 (being the highest), i`ll give it 9 stars!
