Woody Allen is the voice of Z-4198 (Z for short), an ant who's not at all happy with his station in life as a worker in a Central Park colony full of faceless automatons. He wants to be recognized as an individual.
So unrealistic is he about his station in life that he even has the temerity to fall in love with princess Bala (Sharon Stone), an ant so far out of his league that they might as well exist on separate planets. But fate and circumstances put the two together when an adventure outside the safety of the colony turns Z into a hero and gives him the individuality he has always craved.
