Forced to flee their home in Hungary, a couple (Nastassja Kinski, Tony Goldwyn) leave their baby girl behind. The girl, Suzanne, who has been taken care of by a loving rural couple, is taken to the States to live with her true parents at the age of six. As she grows up in suburban California, Suzanne (Scarlett Johansson) becomes rebellious and at age 15, she decides to travel to Budapest to find her true identity.
