Ex-soldier Tomaz (Alec Secareanu) is a refugee in England who works in construction to make ends meet and duct tapes his hands and feet at night to prevent him from causing self harm when he has horrific nightmares. One night, another inhabitant sets fire to the squat where he lives, and Tomaz barely escapes with his life.
In the hospital, he meets a nun, Sister Claire (Imelda Staunton), who saved the few belongings he owns. With no money to his name, he accepts Sister Claire's offer of a place to stay in an old house in London, where his duties are to provide minor repairs and companionship for Magda (Carla Juri), the young woman who lives there. He learns that Magda's mother, who is terminally ill, lives on the top floor. However, Tomaz becomes fearful as he realizes something sinister is going on inside the house.
