Poland, Spring 1981. Janek, a sensitive and thoughtful 17-year-old, lives for Basia, a beautiful classmate, as well as the punk-rock band he formed with his brother and two friends. While they cultivate their taste for rebellion, Solidarity, a Polish trade union federation, sets Poland ablaze by triggering massive strikes that spread throughout the country. When the government responds with martial law to the movement, Janek finds himself caught between his father, an official of the local military police, and Basia, whose father is a committed trade unionist.
