While golfing on the Welsh coast, Bobby Jones (James Warwick) hits a golf ball, then hears a cry and runs to the edge of a cliff, where on the beach below, he can see a prone stranger, who is unconscious. Bobby scrambles down the cliff toward the man, who comes to for a moment, only to utter "Why didn't they ask Evans?" before dying.
Along with Bobby's childhood friend, Lady Frankie Derwent (Francesca Annis), Bobby tries to solve the mystery behind the stranger's last words, even when the authories write off the man's death as an accident.
