In Bastia, Corsica, Stéphane, a small-time delinquent, is arrested for weapons possession. In prison, the young man befriends nationalist militants, who introduce him to politics. As Stéphane grows to understand the political and economic issues of Corsica, he doesn’t realize he’s being enlisted into the mafia.
When released from prison, Stéphane begins to frequent independence movements and gradually slips into extortion and other forms of illegal activity. His dive into violence reaches a point of no return the day he participates passively in the execution of a modest shepherd.
