Chris Rohrlach, the good man of the title, looks like an ordinary Australian 'bloke'. A farmer from northern New South Wales, we discover Chris mustering sheep. But Chris's is an extraordinary story. Fourteen years ago, his pregnant girlfriend Rachel had a massive stroke which left her incurably quadriplegic, unable to move her arms and legs or even speak.
Chris was undeterred, for him Rachel was still Rachel, and he married her shortly after their baby was born. That baby is now a teenage boy and Chris and Rachel have just found out they are having another child! If that was not enough responsibility for Chris, life on the farm is tough and he desperately needs a second income.
To the horror of many local townspeople, Chris decides to open a small legal brothel. This is an extraordinary story of love, commitment, the uniquely Australian culture of country people, and a resilience that seems to know no bounds.
