The Clyburns live a wealthy city life in New York. Family matriarch Stacy Clyburn (Michelle Pfeiffer) can't bear to leave New York, while her beloved husband Preston (Kurt Russell) loves nothing better than to be in the country. He travels once a year to stay with his younger brother Paul Clyburn (Matthew Fox) at his cabins in the Madison River valley of central Montana. The brothers go fly fishing, roast coffee over a fire and hike to explore the majestic beauty of the area.
In Manhattan, Stacy supports and rules over her spoiled daughters and granddaughters. But when a tragedy occurs, she gets them all together with her son-in-law and travels to the cabins in Montana, where they begin an entirely new way of life.
