In the official trailer for Life, we're rocketed into outer space as portions of U.S. President John F. Kennedy's famous 1962 "moon speech" are played out. As images of a spacecraft are featured, John's following statements are made: "No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have come. There is no strife, no prejudice, no national conflict in outer space as yet. Its hazards are hostile to us all."

As the trailer continues, we are slowly introduced to the six-person crew aboard the International Space Station. The team is made up of characters played by Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson, among others. But the relatively harmonic tone takes a sudden turn when the team discovers the first signs of life on Mars. An alien life form in a petri dish, initially harmless in appearance, grabs one crew member by the arm and refuses to release him. Panic erupts and the other team members butt heads over how to respond.
