Best Mainstream First Run Theaters in the Area

October 12, 2018

Stadium seating with mezzanines (required for handicapped seating) that allow for good viewing angles (compare to the junk angles at Crossgates or traditional sloped seating in older theaters like the Spectrum). The restrooms are considerably cleaner than those maintained throughout the mall and by the Regal cinemas at Crossgates). Concessions are generic across all Regal locations in the area. Assigned seating is a GOOD thing. It prevents arguments over saved seats, scrambling to look for available seats, and people "stealing" seats reserved for handicapped patrons. You also choose your own seats. Good riddance to general admission seating! There is one RPX theater (Regal Premium eXperieince). It's the Regal-branded answer to IMax: large format screen, supposedly better sound, and higher quality seating. I've yet to notice the sound. The screen is larger (but so is the theater, and every screen is as wide as the theater allows; the RPX theater is just larger!). The higher quality seats are the most noticeable difference; they recline a bit more, have more cushion, and they're leather-ish finished; there's also elevator access and a "family-style" bathroom in the back of the theater with wheelchair accessible seating, should the disabled want to experience a more distant viewing angle. The only bad thing about this theater is its location. Colonie Center is a parking/access disaster. There aren't nearly enough parking spaces near mall entrances. This makes finding a parking space in any lot other than the wings (Macy's and the now closed Sears) difficult. The spots are also squeezed and of irregular dimension in places close to the mall. Accessibility gets even worse inside the mall. There is escalator access from the first floor to the second (box office) and third floors (theaters). However, down elevator access only exists from the third to second floors. This puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on the rinky dink eleva

Assigned Seat; what am I 5?!

August 05, 2018

500 hundred seats, 20 viewers and you are assign seats that are right on top of each other. Stupid. And no previews, just commercials and a stupid boogie game you play with your phone.... Booo.
