Born: December 08, 1992

Yuri Alexandrovich "Yura" Borisov was born in Reutov, Moscow Oblast, Russia.
Yura has been acting from a young age, booking his first role at the age of 11 on the Russian mini-series Metod Freyda as a guest star. In 2011 he made his film debut in Elena (2011).

Yura is classically trained, having attended the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, from which he graduated in 2013. That same year he won the Golden Leaf award for Best Actor for his role in the play Zoyka’s Apartment.

Still in 2013, Yura booked a major role on the Russian series V zone riska, playing the role of Denis Tavardin. He would go on to establish himself as an actor in Russia by appearing in the films On the Road to Berlin (2015), The Net (2017), Crystal Swan (2018) and The Bull (2019), which earned him a Best Actor nomination for the Golden Eagle Awards.

In 2021, Yura became more known on the international level. He starred as Lyokha in Compartment Number 6 (2021), which won the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival. It was there that Yura was discovered by director Sean Baker, whose film Red Rocket (2021) was also in contention.

Sean reached out to Yura about starring in his next film, Anora (2024). Sean wrote the part of Igor specifically for him. When Yura accepted, the film became his first American production. He was apprehensive at first, but quickly discovered that film productions are the same, no matter where they are located.
Yura also recommended Mark Eydelshteyn, who plays Ivan in the film. Yura was familiar with Mark through his work in Moscow theatre. The two of them would grow close on the set of the film.

Anora premiered at Cannes in 2024 and won the Palme d’Or. Yura's performance was praised by critics and he was described as a scene-stealer. For his performance, he received nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards and the Oscars.
