Tim Fehlbaum is a Swiss film director born in 1982 in Basel, Switzerland. Tim studied directing from 2002 to 2009 at the University of Television and Film Munich. It was here that Tim directed several short films, music videos, and a student feature-length film called Nicht meine Hochzeit.

Tim made his feature film debut in 2011 with his post-apocalyptic film Hell (2011), for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. For his work, Tim was awarded the German Cinema New Talent Award and the Zurich Film Award in the director category. In 2012, Tim was named to Variety’s 10 Euro directors to watch list.

In 2021, Tim directed the sci-fi film The Colony (2021) with Iain Glen. The film won the Audience Award at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival.

Tim's star reached new heights in 2024 with his journalism thriller September 5 (2024), starring Peter Sarsgaard. The film follows the sports broadcasters who raced to cover the events of the 1972 Munich massacre.

Tim says he and his team made sure to stress that it was all about the details. They did extensive research before writing the script, and when they started talking with Geoffrey Mason, a producer on the film and someone who was in Munich, they made the decision to focus the story on the broadcasters.

The film has received critical acclaim, being nominated for the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival, and Tim receiving a screenplay nomination at the Critics' Choice Awards, one that he shares with Moritz Binder and Alex David.
