Born in San Antonio, Texas, Steve Howey lived with his parents on a boat during his early childhood. By the time he was approaching his teens, they settled down in Los Angeles. However, just before he reached senior year in high school, the family moved again, this time to Denver where his father Bill, an acting coach, taught drama at a junior college.
Steve earned a basketball scholarship to the same college, but switched to drama in his second year. He starred in his father's film directing debut, Class (1998). Moving back to Los Angeles, Steve began to land guest appearances on TV shows such as Pacific Blue, Get Real, ER and The Drew Carey Show before being cast in 2001 as a regular on a new WB sitcom, Reba, starring Reba McEntire. The show was a hit and Howey began to get household recognition.
He made the move to the big screen with a starring role in the wide release, Supercross (2005), co-starring Mike Vogel. In 2009 he married his longtime girlfriend, actress Sarah Shahi.
