Born in Kent, Connecticut, Seth Woodbury MacFarlane studied film, video and animation at Rhode Island School of Design. He then went on to work as an animator and writer for Hanna-Barbera, on animated television shows such as Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Laboratory, among many others.
Since then, MacFarlane has worked his way up in the entertainment world. He is an actor, voice actor, animator, screenwriter, comedian, producer, director and singer. He is best known for being the creator of the animated series Family Guy, which first aired in 1999. He also went on to create American Dad! and The Cleveland Show, for which he voices many characters as well.
The self-proclaimed science fiction fan has done guest appearances on television shows such as Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as dramatic series like Gilmore Girls. He has voiced characters for numerous TV shows and TV movies, including Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III. He played Ziggy in the 2010 comedy Tooth Fairy with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In 2012, he made his feature film directorial debut with Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. MacFarlane provides the voice of Ted, a teddy bear who comes to life. More recently, he directed and lent his voice to the comedy Ted 2 (2015). In 2016, he lent his voice again to the animated musical Sing (2016) starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and Scarlett Johansson.
MacFarlane's work on Family Guy has earned him two Emmy Awards and an Annie Award. In 2008, Entertainment Weekly named him the Smartest Man on TV.
