Scoot McNairy

Date of Birth: November 11, 1977

John Marcus McNairy was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. When he was small, his father called him "Scooter" because he used to "scoot" across the floor, and eventually the nickname stuck. Scoot didn't always want to be an actor. His first dream was actually to become an NFL linebacker. But an injury to his back in his sophomore year of high school ended this initial dream. It was then he discovered his love for the visual medium that is film. He told Interview Magazine, "I had a love for photography, which of course rolled into cinematography ... I guess through my learning disability, through dyslexia, I've always been a visual learner — I take everything in through my eyes."

Scoot moved to Austin in his early twenties and at his first-ever audition, he got a part in Wrong Numbers (2001), which won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival.

He then relocated to Los Angeles in order to attend film school and hone his love for cinematography. However, he was only there for a year before leaving to work in film production, building film sets. During this time, he also worked as an extra and got steady work in commercials for many major brands, including Levi's and Mountain Dew.

Next for Scoot were small roles in feature films such as Wonderland (2003), Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), Art School Confidential (2006) and Bobby (2006).

Scoot has also had guest-starring roles in many television shows, including Six Feet Under, Jake in Progress and How I Met Your Mother, as well as a recurring role in Bones.

The unique actor is also a producer, starring in and producing the 2007 movie In Search of a Midnight Kiss, which was his first solo lead role in a feature film. In 2010, he won another starring lead role in the British independent film Monsters.

For Scoot, 2012 was a turning point in his career, when he worked alongside Brad Pitt in the crime film Killing Them Softly. This breakthrough role led to appearances in more high-profile, critically acclaimed features, including the Oscar-winning Argo (2012), Gus Van Sant's Promised Land (2012), Steve McQueen's Oscar-winnning epic 12 Years a Slave (2013), and 2014's much-talked-about thriller Gone Girl.

Scoot was also seen playing a supporting role alongside Sandra Bullock in the political satire Our Brand is Crisis (2015). Other film projects include the superhero flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), the thriller Aftermath (2017) with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the crime thriller Destroyer(2018) crime thriller starring Nicole Kidman, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), a Quentin Tarantino drama starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Scoot has been married to actress Whitney Able since 2010.
