Date of Birth: July 26, 1964
Sandra Bullock is the perfectly perky girl-next door with a heart of gold or a spine of steel, depending on the role. The actress who made our hearts race with Speed has proven herself to be equally at ease with fluffy comedies, human dramas, and cartoony actioners—making her one of the most popular stars in Hollywood.
The former high school cheerleader (voted "Most Likely To Brighten Up Your Day" by classmates) made her first TV appearances in made-for-television flicks like The Preppie Murders and Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man And The Bionic Woman. She also starred as Tess in the TV version of Working Girl (Remember? Probably not).
After a small role in the comedy Love Potion No. 9, Sandra hit the big-time in 1993 when she replaced Lori Petty as Sylvester Stallone's love interest in Demolition Man. She also held her own opposite scenery-chewing Richard Harris in the gentle comedy Wrestling Ernest Hemingway.
Speed put Sandra on the Hollywood fasttrack. Audiences—and Keanu Reeves' cop character—fell in love with the spunky girl with a suspended driver's license. Her stature in Hollywood was solidified when she starred in the hit romantic comedy, While You Were Sleeping. The success of the film made it clear that Bullock could carry a movie on her shoulders and that people wanted to see her quirky, lovable personality. The movie grossed over $81 million domestically and earned Bullock her first Golden Globe nomination.
Two years later Sandra commanded a hefty $12.5 million paycheck to bring back Annie in Speed 2: Cruise Control—an amount the producers are still hoping the film will gross. She returned to what she does best with the comedy Miss Congeniality (2000), earning a second Golden Globe nomination as well as an American Comedy Award for Funniest Actress in a Motion Picture and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actress—Comedy. She has also won two People's Choice Awards for Favorite Motion Picture Actress, in 1997 and in 1999.
She reteamed with Reeves for The Lake House (2006), a romantic drama. She won her first Academy Award and First Golden Globe for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy in the touching drama The Blind Side, based on a true life story. For her work in Gravity (2013) alongside George Clooney, she received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. In 2015, she lent her voice to the animated film Minions (2015) and played a starring role in Our Brand is Crisis, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was produced by Clooney.
In Ocean's 8 (2018), an all-female reboot of the Ocean's movies starring George Clooney, she played Debbie Ocean, who gets together a group of female criminals in order to pull off a heist at the Met Gala in NYC.
Sandra then performed in two movies for Netflix: Bird Box (2018) and The Unforgivable (2021), in which she played an ex-con who just wants to see her little sister again, but is barred from doing so.
Returning to the big screen in 2022, she plays a famous author on the run in the jungle in The Lost City opposite Channing Tatum and co-stars with Brad Pitt in Bullet Train.
