Born: April 30, 1980
Born in Scotland, Sam Heughan joined the Lyceum Youth Theatre in 1998. He was awarded a spot at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) a year later. In school, Sam dabbled in theater, performing in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, The Seagull, Crime and Punishment, and more.
His first notable role came with the film A Very British Sex Scandal (2007), playing Edward McNally, an air force officer on leave who begins an affair with a royal correspondent for the Daily Mail newspaper. He also starred in the film A Princess for Christmas (2011), in which a woman stays in the castle of an estranged relative in Europe during the holidays, falling in love with the Prince in the process. Heughan appeared as Ashton Prince of Castlebury in the film.
He was cast as Jamie Fraser on the Starz TV series Outlander in 2014, and has been with the series for seven years so far. Sam has won a total of seven awards for his role in Outlander, including Golden Derby Award for Best Actor, People’s Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor, and TV Guild Award for Favourite Duo.
He starred in the romantic comedy Love Again (2023), play a man who receives texts from a woman (Priyanka Chopra-Jonas) on her new cell phone. It turns out he has her late fiancé’s phone number, and they form a connection.
A huge fitness fanatic, Heughan loves to run marathons and triathlons, spending his free time training no matter the country he is in. “I spent Christmas and New Year’s in Thailand training at a Muay Thai gym,” said Sam in an interview with Interview magazine.
This passion led Sam to co-found My Peak Challenge in 2015: "A global movement dedicated to educating and inspiring its members to live healthier, happier, and more balanced lives while raising funds to change lives. Our ethos is simple: Help yourself while helping others," as stated by the organization.
Although he has been seen with a number of models and actresses over the years, Sam currently claims to be single.
