Ruby Barnhill is an English actress best known for her roles in the BBC television series 4 O'Clock Club and the Disney feature The BFG.
Ruby lives in Cheshire, England, with her parents and younger sister. She began acting when she was eight years old by participating in local theater productions.
In 2014, she landed a recurring role as Isobel Harlow on the comedy series 4 O'Clock Club. Her standout work on the show subsequently caught director Steven Spielberg's eye and he cast her as Sophie in the upcoming 3D adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's classic The BFG (2016). This was Ruby's very first film role.
Of the 11-year-old newcomer, Spielberg said, “I feel Roald Dahl himself would have found Ruby every bit as marvelous as we do. We have discovered a wonderful Sophie in Ruby Barnhill.”
