Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Roger Bart earned a Tony nomination for his hilarious portrayal of Carmen Ghia in the award-winning Broadway musical The Producers, starring Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. Eventually, Bart moved on to play the lead role of Leo Bloom. In 1999, he won a Tony Award as well as a Drama Desk Award for his performance as Snoopy in the Broadway revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Eventually, Bart reprised the role of Carmen Ghia in the movie version of The Producers (2005).
An accomplished singer, Bart's first feature film experience was providing the singing voice for Young Hercules in Disney's animated feature Hercules(1997). His first appearance in a film was playing a hotel manager in The Insider (1999), starring Russell Crowe and Al Pacino. He then provided the singing voice of Scamp in the video release Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001) before landing the regular role of Paul in the CBS sitcom Bram and Alice. The series lasted less than a season, but Bart bounced back with a lead role as the flamboyantly gay Roger Bannister in The Stepford Wives (2004), starring Nicole Kidman, Bette Midler and Matthew Broderick. He then joined Broderick on screen again for the musical The Producers (2005), a film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, for which he once again agreed to lend his features to Carmen Ghia.
He then took part in Eli Roth's horror film Hostel: Part II (2007), the biographical criminal drama American Gangster (2007) starring Denzel Washington and with Russell Crowe again, the thriller Law Abiding Citizen (2009), the comedy Last Vegas (2013) with Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline, and the biographical drama Trumbo (2015), starring Bryan Cranston.
Television viewers, have been able to enjoy his performances on shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Desperate Housewives, for which he shared a 2006 SAG Award with the rest of the cast, including Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Gross and Felicity Huffman.
Also on television, he has played recurring roles on How I Met Your Mother (2013-2014), Revenge (2012-2015), Showtime Network's Episodes, in which he played Matt LeBlanc's agent and in the 2016 comedy series Graves, starring Nick Nolte as the President of the United States. On Netflix, he played Vice Principal Nero opposite Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events from 2018 to 2019. His most recent TV role was as Curtis Wilson on the Freeform/Disney series Good Trouble (2019-2020).
Never married, Roger has two adult daughters from two different relationships.
