Born: February 13, 1974
Robert Peter Williams was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England to Janet and Peter Williams. Growing up he attended St. Margaret Ward Catholic School in Tunstall, where he took part in several school plays. One of his more notable roles was as the Artful Dodger in a production of Oliver.
Robbie started his musical career at a young age. In 1990 when he was 16, he joined the English pop group Take That and was the youngest member of the group. Robbie would stay with the group for five years before going solo in 1996. He would rejoin the group for a second stint that ran from 2006 to 2011.
Robbie has enjoyed a very successful career. Over the years he has received 18 Brit Awards, while winning Best British Male Artist four times. He has won the Outstanding Contribution to Music award twice, and an Icon Award which recognizes his impact on British culture. He also set a Guinness World Record in 2006 for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day to his Close Encounters Tour.
Robbie just saw the release of his biopic Better Man (2024). The film documents Robbie's career in the form of a CGI chimpanzee. While working on the film, Robbie compared himself to the rapper Eminem when he was filming 8 Mile (2002), in the sense that he felt very protective, especially when it came to the soundtrack.
Outside of his music career, Robbie has an interest in football. In January 2024, Robbie was named president of the Port Vale Football Club in his hometown of Stoke-on-Trent.
Robbie has been married to Ayda Field since 2010 and they have four children together.
