Born in Harlem and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Rob Brown auditioned to be an extra in Finding Forrester (2000), to make money to pay off his cell phone bill. Director Gus Van Sant noticed 15-year-old Brown and asked him to audition for a speaking role.
