Born in Baton Rouge and educated at Louisiana State University, Pruitt Taylor Vince began his career in the mid-1980s. His first onscreen appearance was in Angel Heart (1987), then he gained early recognition with supporting roles in Mississippi Burning (1988), Jacob’s Ladder (1990), and playing Lee Bowers in JFK (1991). In 1997, Pruitt won a Primetime Emmy for his chilling performance as serial killer Clifford Banks on Murder One (1995-1997).
Known for his intense character work, Vince took leading roles in Heavy (1995) and Beautiful Girls (1996), and later appeared in Identity (2003), Constantine (2005), and Bird Box (2018). His television career includes memorable roles in Deadwood, The Mentalist, Heroes Reborn, and Stranger Things. He joined the DC Universe as Jonathan Kent in Superman (2025) and played Bob Bauer in the Apple TV+ miniseries Lady in the Lake (2024).
Outside of his acting career, Vince is known to enjoy a quiet, private life away from the spotlight. Though he keeps much of his personal life low-key, interviews have noted that he enjoys writing and reading, and he has expressed an interest in storytelling beyond acting, occasionally working on screenwriting projects. He’s also passionate about independent cinema and frequently supports emerging filmmakers.
