Pablo Schreiber
Date of Birth: April 26, 1978
Canadian-American actor Pablo Schreiber was born in Ymir, British Columbia to Lorraine, a Canadian psychotherapist, and Tell Schreiber, an American actor. His half-brother is actor Liev Schreiber–Tell's son from his first marriage. Pablo was named after the Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Seattle, Washington where he attended high school and played on the basketball team.
After graduation, Pablo went on to attend the University of San Francisco in the hopes of playing for their basketball team, but later transferred to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2000, he graduated with a degree in theater. His first major acting role came in the comedy Bubble Boy (2001), starring Jake Gyllenhaal. He followed this up with several other relatively small movie roles, including appearances in Lords of Dogtown (2005), Nights in Rodanthe (2008) and Tell-Tale (2009).
In addition to a plethora of film roles, Pablo has also appeared on plenty of television shows, including brief stints on Law & Order, Dirt, and The Good Wife. He also had a recurring role on the series The Wire between 2003 and 2008. Although he earned relative critical praise for several of his appearances at this point, Pablo achieved the greatest recognition for his character, George “Pornstache” Mendez on the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black (2013-2017). This role arguably kicked off his career and earned him even more acting credits.
This year, Pablo returned to the theaters in several big films: Den of Thieves (2018) with Gerard Butler, Skyscraper (2018) with Dwayne Johnson, and First Man (2018) with Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. He’s also maintained a starring role on the fantasy TV series, American Gods, since 2017. The series enjoyed critical success in its first season and he has since confirmed he will reprise his role as Neil Gaiman in the show’s upcoming second season.
He also played a District Attorney who has to prosecute a teenager accused of murder on the Apple TV+ series Defending Jacob (2020).
Pablo is perhaps best recognized in Hollywood for his towering height, standing at an impressive 6’5”. He married yoga instructor Jessica Monty in 2007, but the pair divorced in 2014 with Monty citing irreconcilable differences. The couple have two sons together, Timoteo and Dante.
